This is a portfolio for Ben Price, designer, video producer and archaeologist. Over the years I have been involved with various design projects and 3D visuals. This portfolio shows a selection of my work over the last 20 years starting with the most recent work.

VALT
My most recent work was the Virtualised Archaeological Landscape Toolset project, which was created as part of an unsubmitted PhD thesis. The project looked at how a solo developer could create a tool to utilise landscape data within a VR environment. The tool itself was developed to an Alpha state and the visual aspects of the reconstructions were kept somewhat minimalistic to save development time. The thesis for this project can be downloaded from ReasearchGate.
For the promotion of this project I created two videos, which can be seen here. The first is a quick promo of the project, with the second being created after the completion of the project when there was a need to look for further funding to continue development. More on this project can be seen here.
3D Modelling Hobby Work
I’ve used my skills with 3D to create objects and items for use in hobby gaming over the years. Predominantly this has either been character models for Dungeons and Dragons games, or practical objects such as box inserts or scatter scenery for gaming tables. For the creation of these items I use a range of tools including Autodesk Maya, Fusion 360 & Meshmixer as well as a range of lesser tools.
Masters Thesis
For my Masters Thesis, I created a replica protruding ring headed pin from three clay mould fragments found at The Cairns broch site on South Ronaldsay, Orkney. The process involved using photogrammetry to gain the 3D form of the mould fragment, then lifting the object detail out of that form, flipping it and then merging the form back together, using Autodesk Maya then using Autodesk Mudbox to fill in any missing parts.
Here are two videos detailing the process.
The final form of the pin is currently hosted on Sketchfab:
The original mould fragment that the pin head was created from. This was a photogrammetrical model derived from around 150 photographs.
Stings
This is a video sting created for videos that I occasionally release on my YouTube channel. It was designed to be quick and punchy but also mellow and not overly aggressive.
The following sting was created in 2012 for a blog that I ran called the Intermittent Wargamer – a tabletop gaming blog about my intermittent wargaming. I used Autodesks Maya to create and animate the 3D dice, allowing simulated gravity to let the dice drop to a random position.
Computer Games Industry Work
Many years ago I was employed as a Level Designer with Climax Entertainment Ltd, when they were developing the MMO RPG Warhammer Online. Sadly the game itself was never released but I still have images from the work I did at that time.
